3 Myths About Burning Fat
It is something that at one point or another we have all
struggled with. . . our weight. The trouble with dealing with
your weight is that there are so many different programs and
philosophies out there that it can be really difficult to know
what to believe. Losing weight is hard work and you do not want
to be spinning your wheels trying a weight loss method that
does not really work. Not only will that be frustrating, but it
can also really start to have a negative impact on your self
esteem. There are so many weight loss myths out there, and
several of the most commonly heard myths are about burning fat.
Learning more about this topic will really help you to
accomplish your weight loss goals. So let’s get to the bottom
of the myths about burning fat!
Myth 1: The body only burns one kind of fuel at a time: fat
or carbs, not both.
This is something that has long been misunderstood.
Basically, your body needs both fat and carbs to function
properly, and your body will burn both of those as well. That
is, at any given moment your body is burning fat and carbs at
the same time. The proportion of fat to carbs that your body
burns can change during the day, and can change with what type
of exercise you do. The good news is that it's not that
important to keep track of which type of fuel your body is
burning. The important thing is that your body is burning
calories and that will help your body to lose fat. The key to
losing weight is to burn the most calories that you can so as
long as you are burning calories your body is moving in the
right direction.
Myth 2: Low intensity exercise burns more fat than high
intensity exercise.
If you are talking from a purely scientific place then this
is somewhat true. If you are only expending a minimum amount of
energy then you will burn a higher proportion of fat than
carbs. However, that does not mean that you will burn more
calories doing low intensity exercise than if you were to work
out harder. The important thing to remember is that how many
total calories you burn during your workout is what will really
determine whether or not you are going to be able to drop the
unwanted weight. That being said it is important to note that
no matter what type of exercise you are doing it is a good
thing. If you get yourself moving that is really the key to
starting to drop those pounds.
Myth 3: High intensity exercise burns more fat per minute
after the first 20 minutes.
Again, technically this could be perceived as being correct.
High intensity exercise will cause your body to burn your fat
stores for fuel, and as you exercise longer, the proportion of
fat may increase slightly. However, the important thing to
remember is that in weight loss you want to focus on the total
calories burned. Whether those calories come from burning fat
or burning carbs does not really matter. Instead, you simply
need to work on burning as many calories as you can.
