Free List Of Negative Calorie Foods
Now, before you race down the page to the list of negative
calorie foods, I’d like to clear up a common misconception
about these foods. A calorie cannot be negative; a calorie is a
measurement of heat and can only be a positive integer. When
you hear something described as a negative calorie food, this
just means that the amount of energy needed to eat and digest
it is lower than the energy contained in the food.
By this definition, we could consider water to be a negative
calorie food – if you accept the premise that water is a food.
Water contains no calories and your body has to expend energy
to bring it to body temperature. However, most of the foods on
the list are not like this. They are simply very low calorie
and in and of themselves may not really be lower in calories
than is needed to digest them. However, when taking into
account the amount of energy needed to simply maintain
metabolic processes, they do have a negative calorie
effect.
Anorectics find negative calorie foods to be especially
appealing. A diet consisting only of these foods will cause
starvation and diseases due to nutritional deficiencies in a
short time. The body begins to digest muscle tissue for energy,
causing weakness and wasting.
A negative calorie diet is not a good choice over the long
term, but can be good for a short term detox or fast. For
example, you can cleanse yourself by using this diet for one to
three days, provided you are healthy enough for this type of
fast. Before any kind of fasting or severely restricted diet,
however, get your doctor’s advice.
If you opt for a negative calorie detox, remember the
following:
1. You shouldn’t eat one and only one kind of food,
particularly acidic fruits. The acidity and digestive enzymes
found in pineapple, for instance can harm your stomach. Other
foods when eaten to the exclusion of others can cause diarrhea
or even act as toxins! Eat a variety of foods in this and any
other diet.
It is never a good idea to eat huge quantities of one type
of food, especially fruits. A lot of foods contain substances
that can be damaging if consumed to excess. For example, the
acid in grapefruit and
2. Don’t eat all day. Plan out a few meals a day consisting of
these foods and let your digestive system rest in the remainder
of this time. If you’re only going to do this diet for a few
days anyway, you shouldn’t be hungry all the time.
3. You’ll burn more calories and find your meals more
satisfying if you chem. Thoroughly and eat slowly. If possible,
eat these foods raw; and you’ll find some vegetables
(especially carrot and beet) are more filling when grated.
4. Any fasting or detox diet can cause some
discomfort, so do your fast at a time when you have a
relatively free schedule. If you have severe discomfort, cease
the diet and talk to your doctor.
5. When you end the detox, plan a gradual return to normal
eating.
