The Biggest Loser

Weight loss and fitness plans are a dime a dozen, but “The Biggest Loser” has put  the drama of losing weight on television.  Now you can watch as regular everyday people take on their inner food demons and become the people that they have always dreamed of becoming.

“The Biggest Loser” was developed around the concept that there are several contestants who are all overweight so that they can compete to find out who can lose the highest amount of weight over the course of the show.  The winner of the show, who is crowned “The Biggest Loser,” is awarded a $250,000 prize.  Each contestant is put through a rigorous diet and exercise plan complete with a personal trainer assigned to put them through their paces.

At the beginning of each season the contestants are broken into teams, and those teams are then assigned a trainer.  That trainer helps the contestants work through the work out plan.  The trainers also function as personal counselors to help the contestants work through their past emotional baggage. There is a big educational component built into the show as well where the contestants learn how to eat, and what food products will help them along their weight loss and fitness journey.

Each episode comes to a climax with a dramatic weigh in.  This is where all of the contestants meet to find out who has lost the smallest amount of weight that week.  The contestants who fall below the gray line (those who have lost the least amount of weight) are in danger of being voted off.  The other members of their team must decide which of the contestants should be sent home.

However, being sent home does not mean the end of the contestant's journey.  There is an ongoing competition for the at home competitors as well.  Typically, the biggest at home loser will take home a $100,000 prize. However, the prizes are not just there for the contestants.  The winning trainer will also take home at least $100,000 as a reward for their achievement.

The first couple of seasons of “The Biggest Loser” involved some slight changes.  The first season started with 12 contestants, and as the seasons have gone on they have progressed to as many as 50 contestants to start out.  However, this season has probably been one of the most interesting yet.  This season feature “The Biggest Loser Couples.”  The contestants came to the show in teams of two.  It features husbands and wives, mothers and daughters, and fathers and sons.  This added an extra bit of drama as the competitors survival now depended on how they did as a team.  They would rise and fall together on each others successes and failures.

“The Biggest Loser” has continued to pull in fantastic ratings season after season.  However, perhaps most importantly “The Biggest Loser” has sparked a fitness revolution that has swept through the nation.  It give average people at home the faith that the too can make a change in their life that will change it forever!
